September 24, 1933 --- February 17, 2006

Marlene Slining, 72, of Babbitt went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at the Ely Bloomenson Hospital. She was born on Sept. 24, 1933, the daughter of Henry and Reka Schulte in Hampton, Iowa. Marlene attended school in Alexander, Iowa. On June 11, 1949, she married Harry Jug Slining. In 1952 the couple moved to Austin, Minn., and then to Babbitt on Feb. 6, 1956. Fifty years later, Feb. 6, 2006, Marlene was diagnosed with cancer. She was a homemaker and worked for several places around town, including Slades Supermarket and the Municipal Bar. The couple owned and operated the Country Club for 10 years. Marlene was active in the community and served on many committees. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. She and Jug served as the Grand Marshalls for the Peter Mitchell Parade three years ago. Marlene will be sadly missed by her husband of 56 years and all who knew her.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Harry Jug Slining; son, Terry; daughter, Roberta Bobbie; four grandchildren, Robin, Toni, Bobby, and Emily Rose; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, James; and a granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd of Babbitt. Pastor John Bonk will officiate. Burial will be at Argo Cemetery next summer. Family services by Kerntz Brothers, A Bauman Family of Funeral Home in Ely.
