Edith M. Pollentier, 86, Houghton Lake, died April 17, 2001, at Grayling Mercy Hospital. Services will be held April 21 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Father Greg McCullam will officiate. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Okemos. Arrangements were made by Christler Funeral Home of Houghton Lake. Mrs. Pollentier was born in Clarion, IA on Nov. 23, 1914, to Charles and Ellen (Cleveland) Cronk. She married Alfons "Al" Pollentier June 13, 1953, in Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1994. She retired from the paintroom at GM in 1976. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church; St. James CCW; and a Life Member of #4159 VFW Auxiliary, Roscommon. She moved to Houghton Lake from Holt in 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Nancy in 1999 and Rosetta in 1935; two sons, Tom and Wayne; sister Alice in 1931; two brothers, Ora in 1994 and Leo in 1956.
She is survived by five sons, Russell Raimer of Ypsilanti, Roger and wife Margene Smiley of Houghton Lake, Charles Smiley of Michigan Center, Dick Betz of Houghton Lake, and Charles and wife Joyce Betz of Eaton Rapids; daughter Marie Whitecotton of Arizona; sister Nora Leverich of Des Moines, IA; three brothers, Kenny Cronk and Victor Cronk, both of Lansing and Earl Cronk of Des Moines, IA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to the Roscommon County Commission on Aging.
