EAGLE GROVE - Olive Kristense Swendson, the daughter of Arthur Carl and Inga Johanna (Lilledahl) Rice, was born April 10, 1918, at her family home in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1936. On April 5, 1942, Olive was united in marriage with Kenneth Swendson in Van Nuys, California, after seven years of dating. The couple returned in 1946, after Kenneth's military service and made their home in Eagle Grove. Olive was a caretaker of children and adults in California and Iowa.

Olive was a lifetime member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and served in church circle. She was also a former member of the Rebekah's Lodge. Olive loved to write letters, do counted cross-stich and work on puzzle books.

Olive passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth in 2003; infant son, Kenneth, Jr.; infant grandson, Mark Allen; sister, Cecile Rice and brother-in-law, LeRoyn Stensland. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Diggins and husband Pete of Marshalltown; two grandchildren: Kenny Diggins and wife Mandy of Marshalltown and Kristense Rose and husband Shane of Marshalltown; three great-granddaughters: Emily and Grace Diggins and Herizon Rose; sisters, Gloria Stensland of Thor and Arliss Helgevold and husband Howard of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law, Thelma Johnson of Anaheim, CA and dear friends: Bev Askvig, Jeannie Chapman, Agnes Pressler, Ruth Rasmussen Eudy and the Ronald Bliss family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to Evangelical Lutheran Church.
