October 28, 1913 -- April 2, 2012

Mason City — Christopher H. Lauen, 98, formerly of Garner, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Meservey Cemetery with Rev. Kent Mechler, chaplain, Good Shepherd Health Care Center, presiding.

Christopher Lauen was born Oct. 28, 1913, on the family farm near Meservey, a son of Herman and Ida (Stadtlander) Lauen. He attended country school and farmed with his brothers, later in the Klemme area. Chris was a relatively quiet and reserved man who truly enjoyed the farm his entire life. He looked forward to his daily drives in the countryside and making sure he went by the farm every day until his stroke in September 2006. He resided at Good Shepherd for the last five and a half years and before that at the Prairie View Apartments in Garner.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Ronald (Molly) Lauen, West Des Moines; Shirlee (Rodney) Dense, Dubuque; Dean (Mary) Lauen, Clear Lake; Dianne (Marv) Josten, Marshalltown; Robert (Sandy) Lauen, Ventura; Bonnie (Robert) O'Conner, Stockbridge, Ga.; Richard (Carol) Lauen, Searcy, Ark.; Judy (Wayne) Frank, Sigourney; and Byron (Gwen) Suntken, Meservey. Chris is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bert, John, Herman, Paul and Andrew; sister, Idella (Bert) Suntken; and nephews, LeeAllen Lauen and Larry Lauen. Retz Funeral Home.
