John R. Martin, age 78, of Faribault [Minnesota] died on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault. Services will be held at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be held at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hillsboro, ND. Visitation will be held in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault for one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
John R., the son of Noah and Ethel (Teems) Martin was born on December 4, 1933 in Dows, Iowa. He graduated from McIntyre High School and served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He graduated from Upper Iowa University in January 1960. He was employed by the Leroy-Ostrander School District from 1960 to 1969, when he began his employment for the Minnesota Education Association and he retired in 1996. He was a member of several civic organizations after his retirement.
He is survived by three siblings, Darrel Martin, Kay Cook and Mariland Kleppe; his significant other for 37 years, Oliver Solberg; nieces; nephews; his cat Booboo; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Maxine Carlson, Darlene (and Hilding) Lindley, Walter Martin and Carl Martin.
