Edwin E. Hansch, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Fort Dodge Health and Rehabilitation Center. The service honoring Edwin's life will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Vincent with the Rev. William VanNostrand officiating. Interment will be in Colfax Township Cemetery with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. The visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
Edwin is survived by his daughters, Shirley Patterson and Karen (Charles) Wright, all of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and his sister Dorothy DeFoe, Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl, his son Dean, his parents and his sister Irma Dencklau.
Edwin E. Hansch, the son of Edward and Emma (Ricke) Hansch, was born January 23, 1919 on the family farm in Colfax Township and he attended Colfax Township Schools. Edwin was united in marriage to Pearl Johnson on September 12, 1941 in Fort Dodge. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in the European Theatre including Normandy and Germany, where he received five bronze stars. Following his discharge in 1945, Edwin returned to his home and farmed and operated his own carpentry business. Edwin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served in many offices. He loved bowling, baseball and gardening. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Veterans organizations and enjoyed latch hook crafts and rug weaving.
