Imogene Hiddleston, age 90, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday morning March 22, 2012, at Westwing Place in DeWitt, Iowa. Imogene was born February 18, 1922, in North Kansas City, Missouri, to Dick and Eva (Cain) Peters. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1938. At one time, during her early years, she was declared the Missouri State Champion Typist. On September 6, 1940, Imogene was united in marriage to Chester Hiddleston in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple owned and operated Belmond Department Store in Belmond, Iowa. In 2007, they moved to DeWitt, so that their daughter and son-in-law could care for her through her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Imogene was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. She was an active member of the Belmond Country Club and was an avid golfer. Imogene and Chester enjoyed living in Arizona during the winter months for 15 years.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 71 years, Chester; their daughter, Roberta Hepburn and her husband Fred, of DeWitt; granddaughter, Stephanie (David) Pillers and their children Emma and Kyle, of DeWitt; and grandson Dr. Robert Hepburn, of Scottsdale, Arizona; brother, Charles Peters, of Cameron, Missouri. Proceeding Imogene in death were her parents, one brother and one sister.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, at the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. The Rev. Chuck Kelsey will officiate. A private interment will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
