Jacksonville, Fla. - Mrs. Irene M. (Smith) Forbes, 79, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Belmond, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 14, 2012. A memorial service will be held in memory of Irene on Saturday, April 28, at the Lakeshore United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Fla.

Irene M. Forbes passed away on April 14, 2012, after a brief hospital stay. Irene was born in Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of George and Mattie Smith. She spent her early years in Belmond and Mason City, Iowa. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida in the mid-sixties. She taught cosmetology at the Riverside Hairstyling Academy for many years, until her health problems ultimately resulted in her retirement. She was an active member of Lakeshore United Methodist Church, Faithbuilders Sunday School class, serving in the choir, Young at Heart, Happy Wanderers, and caring for the gardens around the church for many years. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry, and her sister, Marlene Hansen (Duane) and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at Lakeshore United Methodist church, 2246 Blanding Blvd., on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Lakeshore United Methodist Church Scholarship Education Fund or Women on a Mission of LSUMC. Arrangements entrusted to: Hardage- Giddens Funeral Home Blanding Chapel.
