Margaret Madell Stansbury, the daughter of William and Martha (Gunderson) Midland, was born January 16, 1924, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was baptized in the Eagle Grove Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1938. Margaret attended Eagle Grove schools and graduating with the "Class of 1942". Following graduation she was employed at the Ration office during the war and later at the Propane Gas Company and then worked at the office of Dr. Erlander.
On December 28, 1952, Margaret was united in marriage with Callen Stansbury, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church and to this union five children were born: Martha, George, Mary, Marlys and David. The couple farmed in Renwick for 12 years and then moved to a farm west of Eagle Grove where they resided until 1985 and they moved into town. The couple enjoyed traveling after their retirement. Callen preceded her in death on June 14, 2004.
Margaret was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church- serving as chairman of the Ruth Circle, teaching Sunday school and held various offices of the Ladies Aid. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and the Midland family ancestry. Margaret enjoyed playing cards, bingo and other games. She always looked forward to coffee every morning and chatting with the ladies. Margaret also loved to shop, watch Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right. Her family will always remember her baking bread and making "spritz" cookies.
Margaret passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, at the age of 88 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tom Midland; sister, Dorothy Thompson; daughter, Marlys and a great-grandson Landon Eschliman. Survivors include four children: Martha Grice and husband Jim of Norwalk, George Stansbury and wife Jeanine of Glenwood, MN, Mary Swalin and husband Tim of Eagle Grove and David Stansbury of Eagle Grove; nine grandchildren: Tony Eschliman and wife Amy, Dustin Eschliman and wife Shawna, Joe Stansbury, Michael Stansbury, Rachel Pedersen and husband Ryan, Brent Swalin, Todd Swalin, Megan Stiltz and husband James, Jr. and Devon Allen; 16 great-grandchildren: Emma, Avery, Isabelle, Olivia and Irelyn Eschliman, Kenna, Allana and Kobron Eschliman, Natalie and Gavin Pedersen, Jacob, Alex, Dakota and Damian Stiltz and Paige and Donovan McDaniel and two more great-grandchildren on-the-way.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
