March 21, 1935 --- March 27, 2012

EAGLE GROVE - Grenville James Chapman, the son of John Oak and Irene Helen (Dorr) Chapman, was born March 21, 1935, in Clarion, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1953. He then received an Industrial Administration Degree from Iowa State University in 1957. Jim was a member of the ISU's Big 8 Baseball Championship team- placing third in the College World Series.

On August 30, 1957, Jim was united in marriage with Judy McMahon, in Algona, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and Algona wintering in Green Valley, Arizona since 1998. Judith preceded him in death on December 10, 2009. In 2010, Jim moved to West Des Moines. Jim was employed by ACCOMM in their long distance AT&T phone sales department.

Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove and St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Algona. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce- serving as President in 1977 and the ISU Alumni and Lettermen's Club. Jim enjoyed spending winters in Green Valley with all his "snowbird" friends with the infamous saying "when the mountains turn pink, it's time to drink"!!

Jim passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Edgewater Retirement Village in West Des Moines, at the age of 77 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his three sons: Mike Chapman and wife Shannon of Chuluota, FL, Pat Chapman of Maggie Valley, NC and Tom Chapman and wife Julie of West Des Moines; six grandchildren: Melinda Martinez and husband Chris of Anaheim, CA, Carrie McCuen and husband Rusty of Des Moines, Chelsea Chapman of Mankato, MN, Taylor Chapman of Sioux City, McMahon "Mac" Chapman of West Des Moines and India Chapman of West Des Moines; six great-grandchildren: Haley Joy and Wyland Oak Martinez and Keegan, Ireland, Kieran and Kyla McCuen and three brothers: Jerry Chapman and wife Jan of Rogers, MN, Art Chapman and wife Mary of Eagle Grove and Rich Chapman and wife Mary of Billings, MT.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Father Nils Hernandez officiating. A Vigil Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be given in memory of Jim to WesleyLife Hospice 5508 NW 88th St Johnston, IA.
