November 18, 1941 --- February 24, 2012

MASON CITY - D. Kent Larson, 70, of Mason City, formerly of Webster City, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Good Shepherd Health Center in the Chapel, 302 Second St. N.E., with Pastor Kent Mechler officiating. Upon his wishes, he was cremated and there will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the D. Kent Larson memorial fund or Good Shepherd Health Center.

Darwin Kent Larson was born November 18, 1941, in Laurens, the son of Darwin and Marie (Fish) Larson. He attended school in Laurens and graduated from Laurens High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Lenz on March 31, 1963, in Whittemore. To this union two daughters were born, Leslie and Susan. He was employed at Busak and Shamban Inc. as a sales engineer; he was with the company for over twenty years until his retirement. Over the years Kent has resided in Clarion and Webster City before moving to Mason City and becoming a resident of Good Shepherd Health Center. Kent enjoyed painting and making home-made Christmas ornaments. He also had an extensive vintage beer can collection. He was a high school football referee for over thirty years and received an award from the Iowa High School Athletic Association for his years of service. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren who were dear to his heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Nedved and Gary Rank of Woodward, Susan Kovarna and husband David of Mason City; grandchildren, Brynn, Alex and Ian Nedved, Joe, Ben, and Emily Kovarna; sister, Deanna Craver and husband Larry of Newton; several nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Jeanne in 1998. Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, Iowa.
