December 24, 1935 --- March 8, 2012

BELMOND, IA — Larry D. Mennenga, age 76, of Belmond, passed away the morning of Thursday, March 8, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services for Larry D. Mennenga will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. Pastor Troy Phlibsen will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be provided by the Belmond Honor Guard. Visitation for Larry D. Mennenga will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., today, Saturday, March 10, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South, in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made in Larry D. Mennenga’s name to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, Hospice of Wright County and/or the donor’s choice.

Larry Dennis, the son of Harry and Esther (Frohling) Mennenga was born December 24, 1935, at the family farm east of Belmond. He attended country school in Pleasant Township and graduated from Belmond High School in 1954. He worked for Ris-Van Fertilizers and various other jobs. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August, 1958. Larry was honorably discharged in August of 1960, and began farming, which was his life-long profession.

Larry was united in marriage to Margaret Gabrielson on June 28, 1958, at St Olaf Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two sons, Duan Dennis and Daren Douglas, and two grandsons, Tristan Douglas and Ty Douglas, whom he adored. Larry is remembered for his love of horses and fishing. Most of all, Larry loved the time he was able to spend working projects with his grandsons.

Larry is survived by his wife, Margaret, sons, Duan of Tampa, Fla., and Daren (Diena) of Belmond, two grandsons, Tristan and Ty of Belmond, a brother, Lynn (Sue) of Pontiac, Ill., along with five nephews, Scott, Todd, Bradd, Ross, and Chadd and their families of Pontiac, Ill. and surrounding areas, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dugger Funeral Home, Belmond, IA.
