Marjorie LaVonne (Judson) Squier was born January 4, 1920, in Dows Iowa, the daughter of Lucy Amelia (Maryhew) and James Edgar Judson. She was 6 years old when her father died in November of 1926. Marjorie was the middle child of a family of 5 and they lived with her grandmother Lydia Olivia Maryhew in a home without running water and a cook stove as their only heat in the wintertime. She attended school in Dows and was married in 1937 to Kenneth L. Surls and to that union one child, Connie, was born. She worked as a clerk for J.J. Newberry and then became a cashier for Clifton’s Supermarket in Iowa Falls for many years. When it closed in 1957, she traveled to California where she worked for Safeway Supermarket in Burbank, California, as a cashier and retired from there some years later. She met and married Mark V. Squier in August of 1959. In 1989 she returned to Iowa Falls to make her home on Sanford Drive. Marjorie loved the LA Dodgers and attended many ball games while living in California. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking. Her grandchildren requested her potato salad and her pea salad and most of all her peanut butter fudge. She was talented in playing the organ by ear. She was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle champion. She collected life like dolls and over 100 dolls were displayed in her “doll room” in her home. She enjoyed her family and looked forward to Christmas, far in advance, when everyone would be together. Writing letters to her nieces, nephews and friends was a favorite pastime of hers.
