STANHOPE, IA - Darlene Berry, 77, of Stanhope, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Trinity Regional Medical Center at Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. There will be no visitation. Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Darlene Lee Clabaugh, daughter of LeRoy and Leona Wills Clabaugh, was born Sept. 18, 1925, on a farm north of Stanhope. She attended rural schools and graduated from Stanhope Consolidated School in 1943. She worked as a Bell Telephone operator in Webster City. On Aug. 28, 1944, she married Donald Lowell Berry at Stanhope. The couple resided at Stanhope for a short time, then farmed southwest of Webster City for 38 years. They retired in 1985 and moved to Woolstock. Mr. Berry died April 2, 1989. She moved to Stanhope in 1995. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Berry is survived by daughters, Connie Caquelin of Woolstock, Janet Matthews of Des Moines, Jane Berry of Webster City; sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis Berry of Lincoln, Neb., Duane and Pam Berry of Clarion, Rodney Berry and friend Jody Lane of Ames; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Lorene Franklin of Boone; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Henry Caquelin, her parents, a brother, Richard L. Clabaugh. She was a member of the Woolstock United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Woolstock Legion Auxiliary, F.B. Club and a former 4-H leader.
