Roy Kenneth Larsen, 54, passed away at home Thursday, June 24, 1971. He was surrounded by his wife, children and some of his brothers and sisters when he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Roy was born April 14, 1917, at Goldfield, Iowa, the son of John and Anna Larsen, he was the youngest of 12 children born to this union. He was married to Ruby Miller of Hazlehurst, MS on November 21, 1951. He and Ruby moved to Boone, Iowa to make their home. Roy was employed as a brakeman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 29 years. He served four years with the U.S. Army during World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Roy was an active member of the Central Christian Church in Boone, he loved taking his children to Sunday school and being in church with them on Sundays. He was the "neighborhood daddy" always loading the car with all the neighborhood children taking them sledding, ice skating, swimming, boating ...whatever the kids wanted to do.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ruby, two sons, Jon and Jim and one daughter, Jo Ann, all at home; three brothers, Howard Larsen of Vincent, Clarence Larsen of Dows, and George Larsen of Goldfield; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Riggs of Renwick, Mrs. Irene (Norman) Peer of Renwick and Mrs. Marie Gangstead of Hampton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel with the Rev. Walter Grimes officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Bluff Cemetery in Dentville, MS. on Tues, June 29. Friends may call at the funeral home this Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of the service.
