Randall Lee Brooks died in an airplane crash Tuesday, July 31, 1973. He was born April 12, 1948, at Clarion, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. William E. Brooks. He received his education up to the 8th grade at Clarion. The family then moved to Goldfield, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1966. He was active in sports, loved baseball, basketball, and held the record for pole vaulting. He was a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. After finishing school, he joined the United States Air Force for four years.

He was united in marriage to Olga Tehl Hanson of Mankato, Kansas, March 21, 1970. He then attended Spartan Aeronautics where he obtained his airplane mechanics license, and Southwest flight academy where he obtained his commercial pilot's license, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. After his training, they made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. He was employed by Aerial Patrol Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska, flying the underground cable for Northwestern Bell Telephone at the time of his death.

Randall is survived by his wife; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Brooks of Clarion, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Kathy) Olson of Forest City, Iowa, and Mrs. Craig (Penny) Mericle of Clarion, Iowa; one brother, Timothy of the home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Parrish of Eagle Grove, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Brooks of Clarion, Iowa; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant sister Colleen. Funeral services were held at the Clarion Methodist Church, Saturday morning, August 4, at 10:30, with burial there.

Mrs. Randall Brooks, who lives at 10809 T Circle, Omaha, Nebraska 68137, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Hanson. The Hanson's left immediately upon receiving word of the tragic accident, to be with their daughter. Other relatives and friends from the area attending services, included Mr. and Mrs. Walt Holdren, Belleville, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Garman, of Burr Oak, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McElroy, Randall, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lauritzen, Hardy, Nebraska and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Freeman, Mankato.
