Florence M. Schlesselman, 101, died January 17, 2012, at the Medallion Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Florence was born October 5, 1910 to Wilbur and Verena Phipps in Renwick, IA. On August 24, 1935, she married Rev. Orvis K. Schlesselman in Cedar Falls, IA. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2004, at the age of 95. Florence grew up in Renwick, graduated from high school and then attended and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught 2 years in Ionia, IA before marrying. She later taught in Colorado where it fit church assignments. Florence was an integral part of the churches that Orvis served and she always shared his love of the ministry. Florence served as president of the U.M.W. and also the Women's Missionary Society. Florence and Orvis retired to their home on the Templed Hills Camp Grounds, North of Woodland Park before moving to the Medallion Retirement Center. Survivors include two sons, Marvin (Sarah) Colorado Springs, CO, Roger (Sheila) Lakewood, CO; daughter, Louanne of Morrison, CO; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two grandsons.
