Lohrbelle Notestine "Lorry" Williams, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in Tallahassee, Fla. with family members at her side. Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Hardy, Iowa, she grew up in Newton, Iowa, graduating from Newton High School in 1932. She helped support her older sister, Bernadine Notestine (Deutsch) through college, then attended the University of Iowa herself, graduating in 1942. At the University of Iowa she met John Raymond Williams, whom she married on June 10, 1943. They were married 67 years, until his death in 2010. During his service in World War II, she worked as an executive secretary in Chicago. After that, they settled in Fort Wayne where he worked for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company and Lorry was a homemaker raising their three children. They were active in Plymouth Congregational Church, with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the PTA. She was active in the Sewing Club, Antiquarians Club and the philanthropic society, P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a bon vivant who loved entertaining, hunting for antiques, and traveling, and saw to it that the many family trips were filled with visits to museums and cultural sites. Surviving are her three children: sons, Robert (Lynn) and Richard (Kathi), and daughter, Susan; and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Salvation Army.
