LUVERNE, IA - Funeral service for Jerry Lee Patterson, 65, was conducted by the Rev. Dale Reisner at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, in the United Methodist Church at LuVerne. Burial was in the LuVerne Cemetery, the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of LuVerne in charge. Casket bearers were C.P. Patterson, David McPeak, Roger Hansen, Jeff Hansen, John Gales and Don Besch.

Jerry Lee Patterson was born January 28, 1937, at LuVerne, IA, son of Milo H. and Augusta Wegner Patterson. He received his education at LuVerne and graduated from LuVerne High School in 1956. After graduation, Jerry worked with his father in the trucking business at LuVerne. Jerry served his country in the Air National Guard. When he returned from basic training, Jerry continued trucking and when his father died, the business was passed down to Jerry and his brother, Dennis, who operated it under the name of Patterson Brothers.

He was married to Patricia Hood on August 18, 1872, at Canton, SD. They had since lived at LuVerne. Jerry was a member of the LuVerne United Methodist church. He enjoyed watching Spring Car races. Jerry L. Patterson died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 9 (2002), in the Wright Medical Center at Clarion. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, a daughter, Chris and Craig Steinman, a son, Brian and Angie Hood and two grandchildren, all of LuVerne. Also surviving are a brother and four sisters, Dennis and Jane Patterson, LuVerne; Maxine McPeak, Renwick; Virginia and Jim Radley, Sun City West, AZ; Patty and Robert Hirsch, Wickenburg, AZ and Sandy and Eldon Myers, LuVerne. His parents and two sisters, Marie Shimon and Betty Hansen, preceded him in death.
