EAGLE GROVE, IA - Palmer Leo Larson, the son of Palmer M. and Mabel (Erickson) Larson, was born on July 2, 1925, on the family farm in rural Humboldt County, Iowa, Norway Township, east of Thor. Palmer lived his entire life on and farmed the Larson family farm, which was purchased in 1879. Palmer served in the United States Army, entering on January 6, 1945. He received his basic training at Camp Hood, Texas and served in the PTO with the 27th Division. They spent 35 days on a Troop Carrier from Portland, Oregon to Okinawa, Japan and spent one month preparing for the invasion of Japan. His was the first troop to fly into Japan after the surrender. He also served in northern Japan for a short time before transferring to Tokyo and joining the 720th Military Police Battalion. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1946 and returned to farming. Palmer was a lifelong member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor.

Palmer passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 86 years, due to a brain tumor. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother. Palmer is survived by his brother, Roger H. Larson of Eagle Grove and many cousins.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 16, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor Darryl Landsverk officiating. Visitation will be Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Norway Cemetery, rural Humboldt County. Memorials may be given to Ullensvang Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
