Richard Paul Yungclas, 61, of Ames, died Thursday of heart failure at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Richard Paul Yungclas was born May 7, 1941, in Renwick, the son of James and Eloise (Kershaw) Yungclas. He graduated from Boone Valley High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Iowa State University. He married Margaret Frank Sept. 1, 1970. He worked as a deputy sheriff in Eagle Grove. He worked as a lineman for the City of Ames for 26 years. He also worked for the Boone Scenic Valley Railroad. He was a member of Kate Shelley Bridge group, Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad and National Model Railroad Association.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Allen Yungclas of Ames, Kevin Yungclas of Boone, and John Yungclas of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Julie Misenheimer of Cardiff, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James Yungclas Jr. of Goldfield; and one sister, Joanna Mericle of Worthington, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; one half-brother; and one half-sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Memorials may be directed to National Model Railroad Association. Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
