SERVICES: Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Johns Catholic Church in Biwabik with the Rev. David Forsman as celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial with military honors accorded by the Gilbert VFW Post will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik.

Hugh Potts, 87, of rural Gilbert, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at his residence. He was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Belmond, Iowa, to George and Madeline (Madell) Potts. He attended school in Wisconsin and served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He married Josephine Schuster on Dec. 6, 1949. They moved to Gilbert in 1965, and Hugh worked for Northern Mining Equipment Company. He retired from there in 1970. Hugh was an industrious person always willing to lend a hand on any building or mechanical project. He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, George and Mark Klobuchar Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4456 of Gilbert and the Operating Engineers Local 49. Hugh especially enjoyed deer hunting.

Survivors include his children, Jonelle (David) Glumack of Virginia, Roberta (Rocky) Scinto of Mountain Iron and Lee (Kelly) Potts of Gilbert; grandchildren, Mike, Becky, April, Adam and Ashley; great-grandchild, Caitlyn; brothers, Fred of California, Lawrence of Idaho, Paul of Texas, Phillip of Idaho and Ray of Montana; sister, Mary Taylor of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine; sons, James and Robert; brothers, Ed, George, Mark and Robert; and sisters, Catherine, Lorraine and Margaret.
