Man Dies of Heart Attack Here

Funeral for Tunis Vander Weide today

Tunis Vander Weide, retired farmer, who has made his home in Sioux Center the past two years, died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack about 4 p.m. Monday while working with a construction crew at the former Ver Hoef garage building, which is now being remodeled by owner Ben Vonk for occupancy by the Furniture Mart. Vander Weide had been dumping cement into the mixer, he had appeared to be feeling all right, according to fellow crewmen, up until his collapse. Death came a short lime later, before a doctor could be summoned to the sight. One of the workers had attempted to render artificial respiration Funeral services will be held at the Netherlands Reformed Church at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) with interment at the with the elders of the church officiating and burial with be at the Sioux Center Community cemetery with the Co-op Funeral Services in charge of the arrangements. A brief service attended by the family and close friends will be held at the Little Chapel prior to the service at the Church.

Mr. Vander Weide was born in August 17, 1900 in the Netherlands. He came to the United States with his parents as a small child. He married Libby Van Der Brink at Clarion, IA. on March 28, 1921. They farmed near Sioux Center about 30 years until retirement two years ago, when they moved to town. Survivors include the widow; a son, William of Pella, Ia.; a daughter, Mrs. James Van Voorst of Maurice, Ia.; four brothers, Peter of Sioux Center, Arie of Boyden, Ia., Henry of Orange City, Ia., and John of Maurice; three sisters, Mrs. William De Vos, Mrs. Cornia De Vos, and Mrs. Dick Bleeker, all of Sioux Center, and 12 grandchildren.
