Virginia McBurney, 75, of East Moline, Illinois, formerly of Clarion, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, December 28, at the Silvis Heights Baptist Church, with burial in the Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be directed to the Silvis Heights Baptist Church. The Schroder Mortuary of Silvis, Illinois, was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia McBurney, was born on July 20, 1936 in Clarion, to Lee and Ruth Swisher Weiss. On August 17, 1958, she married Richard McBurney in Clarion. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa and later helped start the kindergarten in the Hampton Schools. She was a member of the Silvis Heights Baptist Church and the Good Sam's Club.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of East Moline; four sons, Steve (Martha) McBurney of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Jim (Lori) McBurney of Metamora, Illinois, Pete McBurney of East Moline and Philip McBurney of East Moline; daughter-in-law, Lynn McBurney of Kentwood, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, David (Carol) Weiss of Kent, Washington and Tom (Linda) Weiss of Clarion; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Weiss of Adel. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph McBurney; and a brother, Don Weiss.
