EAGLE GROVE - Barbara Lou Bachel, the daughter of George and Madeline (Schoonover) Roscoe, was born September 16, 1923, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, was Homecoming Queen and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1941. On January 25, 1943, Barbara was united in marriage with Lloyd Bachel in Missouri. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove, though Lloyd was gone for a while serving in the military. In 1975, the couple moved to Loveland, Colorado and to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1998, to be closer to their daughter.

Barbara was an avid card player, bowler, homemaker, cook, golfer and gardener. She welcomed all into her home, including foreign exchange students and anyone who was in need of a place to stay. Barbara loved people and was a joy to be around. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Barbara passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011, in Idaho Falls, at the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd Bachel and son, Tim Bachel. Survivors include five children: Terri Streen and husband Ed of Buffalo Grove, IL, Tom Bachel and wife Diana of Eagle Grove, Rhonda Marshall and husband Chuck of Idaho Falls, ID, Greg Bachel of Denver, CO and Steve Bachel of Sheridan, WY; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Maxine Bohnhoff, Charlotte Rasmussen and Margaret Peterson and husband Goodrich and seven nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Father Nils Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
