M. Alyce Thompson, 91 of Lake City, passed away on Saturday October 22, 2011 at M. Alyce Thompson 91, formerly of Gowrie , passed away October 22, 2011 at Abington on Grand Care Center in Ames. Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Gowrie Township Cemetery.

Mayme Alyce Marie Anderson was born September 2, 1920, in Newman Grove, NE, eldest child of Clarence E. and Wyllma Ruth (Knapp) Anderson. She is survived by her son Dana Paul Thompson of Ames, by grandson Scott (Juanita) of Des Moines, brother George (Eleanor) of Gowrie, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding her in death were her husband Fred, infant daughter Pamela Kay, daughter-in-law Annette (Kraus), her parents, sister Ardell Wise, and brothers, Clarence (Buster) Jr. and Ruel Anderson Alyce was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE. She graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1937 and attended the University of Nebraska, majoring in business and accounting, before moving to Lytton, IA, with her parents in 1938. On February 11, 1939, Alyce was united in marriage to Fred A. Thompson in Rockwell City. They established their home in Belmond, IA, then in Auburn, NE, before moving to Lake City in 1948. She owned and operated a bookkeeping service for many years, serving numerous businesses in Lake City and elsewhere in the area. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, which she served as Worthy Matron, and of the Lake City’s Business Women’s and Garden Clubs. Alyce was devoted to her immediate family and to her parents. Arranging flowers was a particular passion at which she excelled, serving eventually as a master flower arrangement judge. Her health failing, she moved in 2010 to live with her son, Dana. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
