Long Time Resident of Goldfield Dies

Mrs. Mary Beaver, longtime resident of Goldfield passed away at her home Thursday night at the age of 87 years. She is survived by six children, one brother, three sisters, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church with Rev. C. G. McKnight in charge. Mrs. Craig Nelson was soloist and she sang "Face to Face" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Miss Wanda Jones. Casket bearers were Dean W. Moser, Larry Joe Moser, Cliff Hultgren, George Paine, S. B. Paine and Frank Stevenson. Mary Ellen Stevenson, daughter of David Weir and Sarah Stevenson, was born in Tama County, Iowa, August 10, 1866. She passed away at her home in Goldfield Thursday, July 1, 1954 at 11:30 P. M. When she was six years old she traveled in a covered wagon to Nebraska, returning to Wright County when she was sixteen years of age. She was married to John F. Beaver on October 12, 1887. She is survived by six children; Mrs. Nell Ekblom, of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Gertrude Drake of Wilmington, Washington; Mrs. Claudia Short, of Chicago; Mrs. Sara Moser of Eagle Grove, IA; Mr. Fred Beaver of Goldfield, IA and Vern Beaver of Kemmerer, Wyoming. Also by a brother, Arthur Stevenson, of Eastwood, Washington; three sisters; Mrs. Edna Monro, of Edmonds, Washington, Mrs. Elizabeth Duffy of Tacoma, Washington, and Mrs. Marian Samuels of Goldfield, IA. Also by six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Beaver lived in Goldfield for the past seventy-two years, being the oldest living member of the United Presbyterian church, and a charter member of it's Women's Missionary Society, the Senior Society. She was a member of the Rebekah organization. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1910, and a daughter, Maude, who died in infancy. As the Scripture saith "Blessed are the dead in the Lord from hence forth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works follow them." (Rev, 15:13) Services were held Monday July 5th, in the Goldfield United Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. G. McKnight. Miss Wanda Jones, assistant church organist, accompanied Mrs. Craig Nelson, who sang, "Face to Face" and "Beyond the Sunset" -- requested numbers. The Goldfield Chronicle, August 8, 1954
