SHEFFIELD, IA - Florence M. Posekany, 90, of Sheffield, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at the Sheffield Care Center, Sheffield. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield, with the Rev. Jack Vanden Heuvel, of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church in Mason City, presiding. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today, Sunday, at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield.
Florence Mary (Keeling) Posekany was born Oct. 19, 1921, at Belmond, the oldest of 12 children to John and Gladys (Fisher) Keeling. She attended country schools. At age 13, she went to live with her aunt and uncle, Blanche and Pete Porro in Mason City. Florence was united in marriage with Lester Posekany on March 4, 1942, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was able to travel to be with Lester during the war and saw South Carolina and Texas. They had two children, Cheryl and Gary. After World War II, they farmed near Nashua. They moved to Cedar Falls and later moved to Dike, then settling in Dougherty many years later. After Lester passed away, Florence moved into Sheffield to be closer to her children.
She belonged to the Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekahs. Florence was a 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of the Sheffield First United Methodist Church. Florence was an avid fisherman and for many years had a cottage in Minnesota. She did lots of crafts and enjoyed the fellowship in her bridge clubs. For many years Florence worked in food service and ran her own business. She also worked at the Sheffield Care Center until she was 88 years of age.Florence is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Jack) Eno, Sheffield; grandchildren: Jeff (Lori) Posekany, Omaha, Neb., Greg Posekany, Mason City, Kaycee (Ryan) Kruger, Hampton, Megan (Ryan) Hejlik, Sheffield, Sean (fiancé Jessica Stewart) Eno, Sheffield; great grandchildren: Ethan Shields, Ava Kruger, Christian, Taylor, Allysa and Sarah Posekany; brothers and sisters: Edward (Angelina) Keeling, Waverly, Howard (Dolores) Keeling, Waterloo, Leslie (Jackie) Keeling, Brooklyn, Iowa, Charlotte Hanson, Brooklyn, Gene (Sharon) Keeling, Waverly; sisters-in-law: Shirley, Donna and Lucille Keeling. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; son, Gary; brothers: Ray, Don, Jerold, Kenneth and Roy; sister, Margaret and daughter-in-law, Pam Posekany. Retz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
