Claire "Pappy" WATKINS -- Born October 21, 1916 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. Passed away on February 8, 2002 in Seattle. Pappy Watkins had a lifelong interest in gardening and was very active at the InterBay Pea-Patch garden, both growing and mentoring. He was featured in numerous articles in gardening magazines and the newspapers. He was also a past member of the Evergreen Chrysanthemum Association, where he won numerous awards for his outstanding "Mums". His other interests included golf and fishing. Claire retired in 1982 from Gai's Bakery, after a lifelong career as a baker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in WWII. He is survived by his wife Lenore, his sons Greg and Michael, his daughter Kathleen, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Cremation will be followed by a Memorial Service at Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home, 2003 N.E. 57th Street in Ballard at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19th. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Friends of InterBay PeaPatch, 2301 Rosemont Pl. W., Seattle, 98119.
