HAMPTON, IA — Paul Warschkow, age 88, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alden with burial in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Paul Carl Albert Warschkow, the son of Albert August Warschkow and Minnie Matilda Bahr was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Alden. He attended school in rural Alden, graduating from the eighth grade. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden. Paul began working for his dad and some of the neighbors until he married. Paul was united in marriage to Jennie Kruger on Feb. 10, 1945, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Alden. Virgil and Margaret Caruth stood up with them at the wedding. They were married for 66 years. During the first 24 years of marriage, Paul and Jennie lived in and operated farms south of Iowa Falls, near Hubbard, and two farms near Alden. In 1969, they moved to farm near Dougherty, until their retirement in 1991. After retiring, Paul and Jennie sold the farm and purchased ten acres along the river in Belmond. During his retirement years, they lived back in Alden, then near family in both Ankeny and Hampton. For many years, Paul also owned and operated Warschkow RV Sales and sold campers, toppers, and even used vehicles to many happy customers.

Paul was proud of his German heritage. He loved his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed entertaining and visiting with friends and family who frequently stopped by their home. Throughout the years, Paul enjoyed racing stock cars, watching NASCAR races, fishing, and enjoying mom’s homemade pies.

Paul is survived by his wife, Jennie; daughters, Paulette Johnson and husband Marlin of Ft. Collins, Colo., Pam Washington and husband Edward of Ankeny, Peggy Walsh and husband Thom of Hampton; seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren, Jesse Wolf, Matthew Wolf and his wife Nicole and their twins Michael and Madison, Teresa Layland (Washington) and her husband Chad, Tom Washington and his wife Karrie and their children Zach, Taylor, and Brooklyn, Luke Johnson and his wife Ryanne and their son, Johan Virgil, Andre Fristo, Miles Fristo; two sisters, Emma Fessler and Dorothy Hastings, both of Marshalltown; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ernest Warschkow; sisters Marie Fisher and Margaret Gebol; four brothers-in-law, and son-in-law Michael Wolf. Surls Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of arrangments.
