John Maxwell (Jack) Lowe, 75, died Tuesday morning, September 20, 2011, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center [Knoxville, Tennessee]. He was born in Clarion, Iowa, on January 25, 1936, to Maxwell Albert and Sarah Ellen (Oney) Lowe. After his father's death in 1943, he spent the rest of his childhood in his mother's home town, Bridgeport, IL. He was a member of Gap Creek Christian Church. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University (Associate of Technology), Johnson Bible College (Bachelor of Arts), Cumberland College (Bachelor of Science in Education), and the University of Tennessee (Master of Arts in psychology). After a 5-year ministry at First Christian Church in Jellico, TN, he was called to serve at Johnson Bible College, first as Assistant Professor of Psychology and Pastoral Ministries, and later as Vice President for Student Services. His special interests included statistics, computer programming, and magic, and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He was preceded in death by wife Rebecca (Becky) Lowe, daughter Sarah Margaret Lowe, father Maxwell Lowe, mother Sarah (Oney) Lowe Ridgley, stepfather Clifford Ridgley, and brother Charles Lowe. Survivors include daughter Carrie Beth Lowe of Knoxville, TN, son Andy Lowe and wife Carla of North Richland Hills, TX, sister-in-law Sharon Lowe of Springfield, IL, one nephew and one great-nephew. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, September, 22, 2011, 5-7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Chapel at Johnson University, followed by funeral service at 7 p.m. with Dr. David Eubanks, Jon Hale, and Philip Zook officiating. Burial will take place Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with David Osborn officiating, at Brookside Cemetery, Windfall, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Johnson University, 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37998. Berry Funeral Home, Knoxville, Tennessee.
