Maxine Pletcher passed away in her sleep on September 8, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2011 at First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Avenue, with a family greeting one hour prior to service time.
Maxine was born April 29, 1919 to Walter and Tillie (Kepler) Pletcher in Florence, Iowa, where her father operated a grain elevator. She attended country school and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1936. Following graduation she moved to Des Moines where she graduated from The Open Bible College. She was a member of the Open Bible Church where she sang in the choir, a ladies' trio and taught Sunday School. Maxine worked in fabrics at the downtown Younkers store for many years and then in the office before retiring. Maxine lived in Windsor Heights where she had many wonderful neighbors and friends. Her winters were spent in Arizona. In her later years were spent still living in her own home and attending the Senior Center in Valley Junction with many dear friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond Pletcher and Rev. Gerald Pletcher and sister, Doris King. She is survived by two sisters, Ada Perry from Clarion, Iowa and Ardythe (Richard) Madson from Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be given to the Senior Center in Valley Junction or the First Church of the Open Bible.
