BELMOND, IA - Irene A. McMannus, age 89, of Belmond, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, with her daughter at her side. Funeral services for Irene A. McMannus will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Cynthia Morrison will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Irene A. McMannus will be held from 5-7 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 8, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Irene McMannus, the daughter of Emil and Tena Groen Trager, was born on Sept. 15, 1921, on the family farm near Meservey. Irene was united in marriage to Melvin McMannus and they lived most of their married life in the Belmond area. Irene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond and a 50-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. in Belmond. Irene worked for many years at the Belmond Hospital, and then for Winnebago Industries before her retirement in 1982. Irene enjoyed doing puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. Her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren are all proud owners of her beautiful crocheted afghans. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and will be truly missed by all.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, JoAnn Dorr, of Belmond; son, James McMannus, Tehachapie, Calif.; grandson, Mark A. (Ruth) Dorr, of West Des Moines; and two special great-granddaughters, Nina Ann and Amara Grace Dorr, of West Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Tena; her husband, Melvin; son-in-law, Jerry Dorr; brothers, August, Henry, Carl, and Fred; and a sister, Henrietta Kaduce.
