Bonnie Jean Flatequal, the daughter of John and Emma (Fredricks) Smarzik was born September 10, 1926 in Tracy MN. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1944. Following graduation, Bonnie worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN where she met Gale Erickson. They were united in marriage on June 22, 1946 and had two daughters. In 1952, Bonnie returned to Tracy, a single mother, who worked very hard to raise her family. The three "girls" formed a unique bond that continues, even today. Most of her life was spent working and this left little time for hobbies but she enjoyed reading, music and dancing. Through her journey of life, she taught the value of unshakeable faith in God, courageous hope, and unending love. These virtues are her lasting legacy to her family.

January 14, 1967 brought a huge change to the three "girls" lives when Bonnie was united in marriage to Robert W. Flatequal at Tracy Lutheran Church. They enjoyed twenty-five wonderful years together as the extended family grew, including the birth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retiring as a nurse aide from the Tracy Nursing Home, she moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa in 2006.

Bonnie passed away on Friday, July 29th, 2011, at the Paul J. Baber Hospice Home in Ft. Dodge, where she was "loved into new life" by some of the most incredible, compassionate, and caring individuals in this world. She was 84 years old. Her parents and husband, Robert, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Roxanne (Frank) Kemper of Lismore, MN and Randy (Dale) Baack of Eagle Grove; three grandchildren, Bryan Lisnak of Marshall, MN, Christopher (Angela) Baack of Templeton, IA and Shawn (Tina) Baack of Eagle Grove; ten great-grandchildren: Nick, Natalie and Ethan Baack, Hunter Baack, James Hamilton, Jr., Jaxson and Austyn Baack, Taylor Klocke, Charlie and Meridith Beeber and two brothers-in-law: Roger Flatequal and Dale Templeton.
