HERNANDO, Fla. - Craig D. Loeffler, 63, passed away on July 21 at his home at 2336 N. McGee Drive in Hernando, Fla. Craig was born on Oct. 14, 1947, at the Belmond, Iowa, Hospital. His parents are Phyllis (Swanson) and Karl Loeffler.
He grew up on farms living at Belmond, Orchard and Nora Springs. He started school at Orchard and attended high school at Nora Springs. He moved with his parents to Lisbon, where he received many awards for his wrestling skills and graduated in 1966 from Lisbon High School. After high school, he served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1972, he moved with his parents to St. Pete, Fla., where he worked in sales at Whitney Carpets. In 1977, he married Bonnie Fischel of Bloomington, Ill. They were married at the Little Church by the Sea in Madeira Beach, Fla. On Nov. 8, 1977, their son Charles Douglas was born. Craig and Bonnie divorced in 1983. Craig opened his own carpet business, called Carpet Trends, in Largo, Fla. Craig was an avid fisherman and loved going out for a day of fishing. In 1998, Craig closed his carpet business, sold his home and moved to Hernando Beach. He got into carpet sales at Bayonet Point and then at Hudson, Fla. In 2007, Craig joined his brother, Vance in his A Plus Sod business and moved to Hernando. He became well-known around the area. Craig was preceded in death by his father Karl Loeffler in April 2009. He leaves to mourn his passing his son Charles of Casselberry, Fla., his mother Phyllis Loeffler of Ocala, brother Vance of Hernando, sister Renette Hess (James) of Inverness, niece Karlie Watson of Ocala, uncle Don Thompson of Belmond and many loving cousins and friends far and near. He will be greatly missed by his family and in the A-Plus Sod business. He will be cremated.
