Dorothy Mae Lien, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Bohy) Malaise, was born November 5, 1924, in Woolstock, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth. On January 26, 1952, Dorothy married Melvin Claude. He was killed in a farm accident on December 17, 1962. Dorothy married Stanley Lien on April 13, 1966 in Vermillion, SD and made their home in Eagle Grove, where Stan worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He preceded her in death on November 1996.

Dorothy was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle. She was also a member of and served as President of the American Legion Auxiliary and Vice President of V.F.W. Auxiliary. Dorothy had many hobbies, including bingo, cards, reading, crossword puzzles, dancing, fishing, canning and baking. She also enjoyed going to auctions, which helped create a large collection of roosters and cookbooks.

Dorothy passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 86 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia (Lien) Bailey; granddaughter, Sheila Bowen; brothers, Vern Malaise and Harold Malaise and sister, Mary Fawcett. Survivors include her children: David Lien and wife Rita of Cedar Rapids, Diane Lien and Bob of Corvalis, MT, Nancy Reyna and husband Dan of Clarion and Kim Martin and husband Dave of Clarion; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Malaise and wife Judy of Webster City; sister, Lavonne Deuel and husband Don of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law, Linda Malaise of Spencer and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
