Ronald Lee Hackley, 70, of Clarion, Iowa passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his home in Clarion. Funeral services for Ron Hackley will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Clarion Church of Christ, 420 North Main Street in Clarion with Pastor Warren Curry officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street in Clarion, and continues one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Ronald Lee Hackley was born March 25, 1941 to Howard and Doris (Bates) Hackley in Rowan, one of four children. Ron attended school in Rowan. Following high school, Ron worked for the Rock Island Rail Road, and later served in the U.S. Army for several years. Upon returning from the military, Ron was united in marriage to Betty Day. Ron was united in marriage to Colleen Betts on December 31, 1982 in Clarion. Ron worked as a diesel mechanic and drove heavy trucks for several years and for several different employers, including Acme Brick and Stan Reidel. Ron also worked for Umthun Trucking in Eagle Grove, doing their rear-end and transmission maintenance work.
Among his favorite jobs, Ron served as a reserve police officer in West Union (working alongside his brother Dave) and in Clarion. He also scrapped iron and metal from his early years through his retirement at the age of 62. Ron enjoyed fishing, coyote hunting, special camping trips with his family over Memorial Day weekends, and taking his dog Max on truck rides. Most of all, Ron enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ron was a member of the Clarion Church of Christ, and a member of the VFW in Clarion.
Ron is survived by his wife, Colleen Hackley of Clarion; his son, Terry (Melissa) Hackley of Clarion; granddaughters Alexandria and Gabrielle; his sisters Betty LaRue of Clarion, and Donna (Wayne) Halverson of West Union; his brother Dave (Lucy) Hackley of West Union; his faithful dog, Max; and numerous other nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers-in-law Roger Johnson and Boyd LaRue.
