October 15, 1939 --- July 13, 2011

Gerald George Gregory Grant, 71, Nevada, Iowa died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of cancer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Interment will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Gerald Grant, son of Frank and Mandelian (Foertsch) Grant, was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Wesley. He graduated from Corwith High School in 1957. He married Georgiann Kraft on April 8, 1961. He worked as a hired man on farms near Britt and Alexander before he started farming on his own in 1969 near Hampton. They started farming near Nevada in 1976. He was a very active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He was a Pioneer Seed dealer, member of the Central Iowa Mutual Insurance Association Board of Directors, Nevada Township trustee and 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Story County Sheriff's Reserve for 13 years. He enjoyed restoring tractors, going on tractor rides, attending Iowa State University sporting events, mowing, moving snow and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was a farmer up to the very end.

Survivors include his wife, Georgiann Grant, of Nevada; three children, Jeffery and Jodi Grant, of Sheldon, Carmen and Brent Onken, of Derby, Kan., and Ken and Jill Grant, of Nevada; eight grandchildren, Addison and Brailey Grant, Jessica, Rachel and Sarah Onken, and Emily, Brian and Spencer Grant; three brothers, Robert and Vicki Grant, David and Lynne Grant, and Thomas and Kim Grant; five sisters, Joan Davis, Karen Ingham and Richard Nuehring, Mary Cahalan, Linda and Robert Tallon, and Sandra Grant; two brothers-in-law, Ronald and Carolee Kraft, and Richard and Marcia Kraft; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Telfer and Joan Grant. He was preceded in death by a son, David Gerald Grant, in infancy; his parents; three brothers, Michael Grant in infancy, Donald Grant and William Grant; a brother-in-law, Rollin Ingham; a nephew, Michael Grant; and a niece, Donna Davis. Bacon Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
