Steven Dearchs, born February 3, 1958 to Maynard and Sharon Dearchs in Frankfurt, Germany, died on July 7, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his family. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Steve spent his early childhood in Maryland and most of his school years in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Steve's first occupation was bricklaying. After moving to Des Moines in approximately 1981, he worked for homebuilders, did home remodeling, and became a talented cabinetmaker and carpenter.
In 1985, Steve married Christine (Bird), and they had two children, Emily and James. Steve was extremely proud of his children and enjoyed spending time with them. Steve was a quiet and gentle-hearted man. He enjoyed music, playing guitar, fishing and camping trips with his family. He was also an avid reader and loved to learn how things worked and were put together.
Steve is survived by his children, Emily and James Dearchs; his mother and step-father, Sharon and Harold Heeren; his sisters, Robin (Jim) Svadbik and Jolene (John) Lauer; eight nieces and nephews; six great-nephews; and his friends, Christine (former wife) and Rick Enos. He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Dearchs, both his paternal and maternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Memorials contributions may be directed to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House or Central Iowa Shelter.
