Dayton the son of Frank and Pearl Gouge Adreon was born November 20, 1928 in Corwith, Iowa. He graduated from Corwith High in 1947. He then enlisted in the Navy and proudly served on the USS Iowa battleship during the Korean War. Dayton was proud of the Veterans Administration and supported it all his life. He never tired of sharing all his Navy stories, including being a lightweight boxer for his unit. While on military leave Dayton met Lois Shelton from Kanawha, Iowa on a blind date. They were married seven days later, just before returning to Navy duty in Norfolk, Virginia. After Dayton was discharged they lived in Mason City and then bought their first home in Britt where Dayton still resided. Dayton was an auto mechanic and loved Ford vehicles, especially red Mustangs. He loved to plant flowers and vegetable gardens. He took pride in his homemade apple pies. And he loved to be near or on the lake or ocean.
Dayton is survived by three daughters: Robin Howe and her husband, John of Garner, Kim Grant and her husband, Tom of Britt, and Darcy Eisenman and her husband, Mark of Britt; son-in-law Max Studer of Garner; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and one sister Rena Claude of Garner.
