Althea Arlene Douglas, the daughter of Lawrence and Lillian (Lister) Griffith, was born in Wright County, Iowa, on March 8, 1923. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduating from Goldfield High School in 1940. On January 22, 1943, Althea was united in marriage with William W. Douglas in Bethany, Missouri. The couple resided and raised their seven children in Goldfield since 1947. William preceded her in death on September 5, 2002. Althea was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church and a member of Oakridge Recreation – where she enjoyed golf, cards and bingo. Althea also loved music and her grandchildren. Althea passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents; two brothers; two sisters and one son-in-law.

Survivors include her children: Judy Frakes of Eagle Grove, Jackie Tharp and husband Jeff of Blue Grass, Mike Douglas and wife Cathy of Box Elder, SD, William Douglas and wife Jan of Goldfield, Debra Thompson and husband Richard of Eddyville, Lori Weets and husband Larry of Goldfield and Connie Ruiter and husband Kyle of Goldfield; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; a brother, Larry Griffith and wife Maureen of Grove, OK; a sister, Bernadine Wilkenson of Eldora and three sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 15, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until to service time at the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Wright County or the Goldfield United Methodist Church.
