Jean Parry, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ted Miller officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Private inurnment will take place in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Nohlgren of Chicago; daughter-in-law, Linda Parry of Portland, Ore.; and five grandchildren, Laura, Lynn and Bethany Nohlgren and Colby and Evan Parry. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Evan Parry; son, Robert; sister, Cleone Price; and son-in-law, Douglas Nohlgren.

Jean was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Britt, Iowa, to Joseph and Vida Stebleton. She graduated from Belmond High School, attended the University of Iowa and later graduated from Coe College and received a master’s degree from the University of Iowa. On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Evan Parry in Iowa City. When he left for service in the Marines she moved to Cedar Rapids, where they continued to live. He died in 1986. Jean was Linn County supervisor for the Federal Work Experience Program during the 1960s. She was later counselor for St. Luke’s School of Nursing, retiring in 1978. During the 1970s, she was listed in Marquis’ “Who’s Who of American Women.” She had many interests, including art, especially watercolor painting. She specialized in house portraits and had a website where she received orders from many states.

She was a docent at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, member of First Presbyterian Church, corresponding secretary and volunteer at the Linn Community Food Bank, a charter member, wrote the monthly newsletter and was ex-president of the Golden K. Kiwanis Club, Signature member of Iowa Watercolor Society, and member of Iowa Artists and Cedar Rapids Creative Artists. In lieu of flowers, she suggested gifts be donated to the First Presbyterian Church or the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
