John Otto Hines, 81, former Garner [Iowa] resident, was found dead in his bed at Hancock County home Saturday morning. He was discovered by Herman Paul Steward of the home. Mr. Hines was in apparent good health when re retired Friday night. A heart attack was believed to be the cause of death. Funeral services were held in a funeral home at Hubbard Monday afternoon. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery. Mr. Hines was born near Eldora May 8, 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shedrick M. Hines. About 1910 he moved to the Hubbard vicinity and in 1944 came to Garner where for some time he made his home with his son-in-law, Hollie Bethke and his daughter, the late Mrs. Bethke. He had been cared for at the county home the last few years. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son and daughter. Surviving him are one grandson, Gayle Bethke; two sisters, Angie Buck and Mary E. Jones, both of Stillwater, Okla.; and his son-in-law, Hollie Bethke.
