July 21, 1946 --- June 25, 2011

James "J.P." Peterson, 64, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday June 25, 2011 at his home. Funeral service will be Thurs-day, June 30, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Sunny Dominic, officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial with Military Rites presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1856. Private family burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil at 7:00 p.m.

James is survived by his wife; Joan; children: Kris Kirk of Fort Dodge; Kim Peterson of Fort Dodge and Eric (Marina) Peterson of Des Moines; 4 grandchildren; parents, Arthur and Alta Peterson of Fort Dodge; grandmother, Anna Orr of Eagle Grove; sister, Jean Ann (Mike) Miller of Duncombe; sister-in-law, Lori Peterson of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold Peterson

James Peterson was born on July 21, 1946, in Fort Dodge. He attended school in Eagle Grove. He served with the U.S. Marines, during Vietnam, from December 1963 until his honorable discharge in December of 1967. He was united in marriage to Joan Koester on February 15, 1969, at St. Joseph's Church in Duncombe and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He was employed by Culligans Water Conditioning for 26 years. Jim was also a motor coach driver for Northwest Iowa Tours for many years until his retirement. He was an assistant Scout Master for Troop 8 in Fort Dodge, lifetime member of the Marine Corp League, the D.A.V., the V.F.W. Post 1856, the American Legion, and the Plane Crazies. Jim was an avid bird watcher. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
