Loretta M. Edsall, 93, of Bozeman, Montana died October 15 in the Madison County Nursing Home in Sheridan of natural causes. She was born January 31, 1897 in Corwith, Iowa, to George Henry and Edith Briggs Miller. On November 17, 1969 she married Roy L. Edsall in Lewistown. She and her husband were instrumental in forming the Fergus County Council of Aging and quietly performed many acts of charity and kindness in Lewistown. Mrs. Edsall received her early education in North Dakota and after graduation she attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she received her bachelor of philosophy in education in 1930. She received a masters's of psychology of education in 1938. She then took her doctorate from the teachers' college in Columbia University in New York City. Mrs. Edsall taught schools in Garfield County from 1915 to 1922, was principal of Parkridge, IL, Girls' from 1923 to 1928, principal of the Convalescent and Crippled Children's School in Chicago from 1930 to 1942. She was professor of special education at central Washington State College from 1964 to 1968, professor at the University of Alaska and visiting professor of education at Alaska Methodist University. She was a 50 year member of the Altrusa Club. Survivors include three stepsons, Glen of Bozeman, Lowell of Sheridan and Phillips of Williamsburg, VA; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bill (Rheta) Kissler of Bozeman; a sister, Mrs. Lyle (Leta) Sawyer of Nacona, TX 11 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
