Lucile Severson, 84

Anchorage resident Lucile Joy Severson, 84, died April 11, 2005, at her home. A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Rick Cavens will preside. Mrs. Severson was born May 1, 1920, in Hayfield, Minn., to Alfred and Henrietta Lunde. She moved to California with her sister in 1940 and then to Anchorage in 1973. Mrs. Severson worked on the Alyeska pipeline during its construction and as a waitress for the Hilton Anchorage; she retired in 1985. Mrs. Severson was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church since 1987. She received a lifetime membership with the PTA in LaMirada, Calif., where she raised her two children. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher.

"Joy was best known for her bright, contagious smile, which she shared often," her family said. "Joy loved to watch her daisies come up in the spring and nibble on her raspberries as they ripened in the summer."

Mrs. Severson is survived by her brother, Lynn Lunde of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Marla Severson of Anchorage; grandchildren, Brady and Jason Tomberlin of Anchorage, and Stephanie Dooley of Fullerton, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Chase, Jason, Brian, Bradley, Brent and Brandon. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
