Raymond E. Lachmiller, 78, of Belleville, Ill., born Aug. 15, 1932 in Clarion, Iowa, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. Raymond retired as a master sergeant in the United States Air Force after 22 1/2 years serving overseas in the Korean War and also in Japan, the Philippines and Greenland. He also retired from the United States Post Office as a letter carrier after 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Stephen H. Lachmiller and Scott W. Lachmiller; his father, Dr. J. Harlow Lachmiller; his mother and stepfather, Scott and Carlene Vollmer; a sister, Jeanette Burris; and his father and mother-in-law, Stephen A. and Elizabeth S. Sloger. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Frances, nee Sloger, Lachmiller whom he married on June 6, 1959; a son, Raymond Eric (Jennifer) Lachmiller of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne M. Lachmiller of Belleville, Ill.; and his grandkids, Amanda and Lucenda Lachmiller of Goodlettsville, Tenn.

Memorials may be made to the Lachmiller family. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., and then from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill. Interment will be in Green Mount Protestant Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
