Glenn N. Weeks, 73, retired Carroll jeweler, died late Wednesday evening in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Ingersoll, in Des Moines, where he had been cared for the past year. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll, with the Rev. Allan M. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery, with military rites at the graveside by Maurice Dunn Post No. 7 of the American Legion. Friends may call at the Huffman Funeral Home in Carroll after 7 p.m. Thursday. The casket will be taken to the church at 9:30 Saturday morning and will not be opened at the church. An Elks memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Huffman's.
Mr. Weeks was born in Fort Dodge on Oct. 18, 1892, the younger son of Fred and Jennie Trusty Weeks. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School and then attended the Bradley Horological School at Peoria, Illinois. After a period of working for the Mack-Hurlburt Jewelry Company of Fort Dodge and the Dow Company at Jewell, he came to Carroll in 1913 and became associated with E.M. Rentschier Jewelry Store. In September 1919, he bought the E.W. Zinzer Store under the name of Weeks Jewelry Store. On account of ill health,, he sold his business to the present owners of the Community Jewelry in 1961.
During World War I he served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant, seeing service in the Archangel Sector of northern Russia for one year. He served as city councilman for 12 years and as a member of the Board of Education for a like period. He was a charter and senior active member of the Carroll Rotary Club, served as trustee of the United Presbyterian Church; was past commander and a 46 year member of Maurice Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion; a charter member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 1637; and a charter member of the Carroll Country Club. He was a 50-year member of Signet Lodge No. 264, A.F. and A.M. and also of Signet Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star. He also belonged to Copestone Chapter No. 78, Royal Arch Masons; Cryptic Council No. 38, Royal and Select Masters of Iowa; was a past commander of Azgad Commandery No. 63 Knights Templar; and until becoming ill, belonged to Za-Ga-Zig Temple of Des Moines.
Mr. Weeks was married in Carroll on Oct. 4, 1919, to Lutherea Pelsue, daughter of the late Edson J. and Emma Gilley Pelsue. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ingersoll (Jane), Des Moines, and Mrs. James B. (Marcia) Porter, Shelby, Mont.; five grandchildren and one great grandson. A brother, Leon, preceded him in death.
