Ankeny, IA -- Thomas A. Jetmund, "Jet" 88, passed away on June 1, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. He was born in Dows, IA on April 8, 1923 to Rasmus and Inga Jetmund, youngest of 10. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 yrs old and served his country in WWII. He recently participated on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He married Avonelle Echelberger on June 30, 1944 and they shared 54 wonderful years together until her death in January 1999. They had two sons, Jon and Jack, who were their pride and joy. He retired from the Iowa State University Power Plant and loved his Cyclones! His "other" job was a high school referee in Baseball, Basketball, Football.
He is survived by his sons, Jon (Debbie) Jetmund, Ankeny, IA, Jack Jetmund (Vince Keilman) Washington, D.C., grandchildren Kelli (Brett) Kasal, Dustin (Brooke) Jetmund, step-grandchildren, Lisa (Dan) Bunkers, Brian (Meaghan) Carpenter, Angela Carpenter (Dale Mohr), Michael Hidder, and great-grandchildren Kaden Kasal, Jase Jetmund, Jack, Charlie and Neah Bunkers.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 5, at Ankeny Funeral Home with service to follow at 7 p.m. A short graveside service will be in Dows, IA at 10:30 a.m., June 6. Memorial Contributions can be made to American Legion, Dows, IA.
