November 23, 1847 -- January 27, 1928

Services for Charles Moore were conducted on Sunday afternoon, January 29, [1928] at Belmond, Ia. The body was shipped to Glidden Monday afternoon. Services were conducted at Young Moore's home on Tuesday afternoon, January 31, when many of his friends gathered to pay their respect to the memory of an old neighbor and friend. Rev. W. D. Jones and Rev. O. W. Morrow officiated. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of A.H. Haupert, H. Mohr, L. McLaughlin and O.B. Moorhouse. Mrs. O.B. Moorhouse presided at the piano. The Masons attended the services in a body. The body was laid to rest in Liberty cemetery, 9 miles north of Glidden. The Masonic ritual was delivered by Wallace Center at the grave.

The following obituary was furnished for publication, and gives a comprehensive idea of the esteem in which the deceased was held. -

Charles Moore was native of Peel county, Ontario, Canada, a son of the late Ross Moore of Carroll, Ia., and was born November 23, 1847, being at the time of his death, 80 years, 2 months and 4 days. He was of purely Irish descent. When 24 years old, he came to Glidden, Ia., and located on a farm in Sheridan township, which is still in possession of the family, Young Moore now owning the farm. With the exception of 2 years spent in Jasper county, he lived continuously on his farm a mile north of Lidderdale till compelled by infirmities to leave the farm. He then moved to Glidden, where he lived until 1918. Since then he had spent his time at Belmond and Lidderdale.

In the year of 1877, he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Wood. To this union were born three children, Hattie, now Mrs. Henry Suhr, of Spirit Lake, Ia.; Howard of Minneapolis, and Jessie, now Mrs. Gus Brugger of Owas, Ia. They, together with their mother, five grandchildren and two brothers, Young Moore of Glidden, and Ross of Clarinda mourn the loss of a loving father, a kind husband, and a loyal brother.

On March 28 of last year Mr. and Mrs. Moore celebrated their golden wedding at Belmond. Coming here at an early day, he and his good wife underwent many hardships and privations, but by thrift and steady integrity that make the man what seemed and were mountains to many of the pioneers accumulated enough of this world's goods to enable himself and wife to spend their old age in comfort. Mr. Moore was generally known for his hospitality, honesty and integrity, never too weary to entertain friends or strangers who came to his home. He was public spirited. For 16 years, he was continuously elected to public offices of trust in his township. Nothing pleased him better than to serve his community. He was interested in education and all worth while enterprises. Charles Moore was a Mason. He became a member of Haggai lodge A. F. & A. M., No. 369, about 50 years ago. He was also a member of Copestone chapter, R. A. M. No 78, at Carroll, Ia., and Medina council No. 26. R. & S. M., Eagle Grove, Ia. Mr. Moore spent much time in religious reading and Bible study. He so often said during his last long illness, "I have made my peace with God, I am ready to die."

With a feeble step, but a determined will, he walked about the house till about five minutes preceding death. He refused physical assistance till his feeble strength could no longer hold out. Mr. Moore had many friends and will be greatly missed in his home and by those who knew him as a neighbor.
